I've wanted to learn photo restoration techniques for a while.
My father, as unofficial archivist for his side of the family, has been supplying me with snapshots from the seemingly endless number of shoeboxes that serve as the archive.
I armed myself with a decent scanner, a tutorial manual, and about a zillion mp3s for company.
Progress is slow, because I have to wait until the rest of my family has gone to bed...otherwise, there are too many distractions.
I seem to be improving; however, I noticed that I tend to overcompensate for the yellow cast that affects many of the pics.
I have learned, so far:
Cyan seems to bother me less than yellow.
That textured Kodak paper that was really popular in the 70s is absolutely diabolical.
If you try to airbrush dust and scratches out of a 50 year-old snapshot while listening to Fleetwood Mac's "Hypnotized" over and over again, it's just like taking Nyquil.
